Aphids are among the most destructive pests in nature, causing significant damage to crops. Different aphid species exhibit varying sensitivities to different insecticides , resulting in varying effectiveness in controlling them. The following seven pesticides are most effective against aphids:
1. Nicotine-based insecticides
These insecticides include imidacloprid, acetamiprid, thiamethoxam, and nitenpyram. They can be used to control generally resistant aphids and have a systemic insecticidal effect; however, acetamiprid is not suitable for use at low temperatures.
2. Pyrethroid insecticides
These insecticides include lambda-cyhalothrin, cis-cyhalothrin, and bifenthrin. They have a broad insecticidal spectrum and are effective against aphids, but they are generally not used alone. It is recommended to use them in combination with neonicotinoid insecticides, such as thiamethoxam.
3. Pymetrozine
It belongs to the pyridine class of insecticides and has good systemic contact insecticidal effect. After pests come into contact with the pesticide, they will stop feeding and gradually die. However, the insecticidal speed is relatively slow. It is not recommended to use it alone; it can be combined with other insecticides such as acetamiprid.
4. Flupyradifurone
It is a highly effective pesticide for controlling resistant aphids. A 10% solution of flonicamid at a dilution of 1500-2000 times can achieve significant results. It mainly targets adult aphids, but its insecticidal speed is relatively slow. It is recommended to use it in combination with pymetrozine, acetamiprid, etc.
5. Flupyradifonil
It is a highly effective pesticide for controlling resistant aphids. 50% flonicamid water-dispersible granules are effective when used at a dilution of 4000-5000 times. It is not recommended to use it alone.
6. Bifenthrin
It is a new type of highly effective aphid pesticide. A 5% difenoconazole dispersible liquid diluted 1500-2000 times can effectively kill aphids.
7. Spirotetramethrin
This is the most widely used pesticide against fruit tree aphids, and it is quite effective against piercing-sucking pests. Generally, a 22.4% spirotetramat suspension at a dilution of 2000-3000 times is used to control aphids. It is generally not used alone but can be combined with pesticides such as acetamiprid and flonicamid.
