What is the best way to tell the sex of eggs?
Eggs do not have male or female distinctions; the only difference is whether they are fertilized or unfertilized.
How to determine if an egg is fertilized?
1. Observe the color of the eggshell.
Fertilized eggs tend to have a slightly darker, less bright color. This is because fertilized eggs absorb many substances, resulting in more impurities and a duller appearance. Unfertilized eggs, on the other hand, generally have a relatively bright white shell.
2. Weigh it
Gently lift the egg with your hand to feel its weight. Common sense tells us that an unfertilized egg will be relatively heavier. This is because after fertilization, some substances in the egg are absorbed by the fertilized egg, thus reducing its weight.
3. Listen to the sound
Pick up an egg and shake it. An unfertilized egg will not make a sound when you shake it in your hand, while a fertilized egg will make a slight rattling sound because it has a solidified point.
4. Observe the egg yolk.
You can use an LED flashlight to observe the egg. If the yolk remains in the same position (concentrated in the center of the egg) for 10 hours, it is definitely not fertilized. If the yolk's position changes, generally sinking slowly to the bottom and distributing evenly, then the egg is fertilized.
5. Egg opening and identification
Crack the egg into a bowl and observe it, being careful not to stir it. Typically, the egg white of a fertilized egg will tightly envelop the yolk, preventing it from spreading. Furthermore, the yolk of a fertilized egg will appear fuller, rounder, and more prominent compared to an unfertilized egg. Additionally, you can see a distinct black dot in the yolk of a fertilized egg; this is the fertilization point mentioned earlier.
