What to write in a message of sympathy

A short, sincere message can be enough. Name the person, acknowledge the loss and share a specific memory if you have one.

A short, sincere message can be enough. Name the person, acknowledge the loss and share a specific memory if you have one.

Avoid guessing how someone feels or telling them when grief should end. Instead of promising to help with anything, offer something concrete that you can do, such as a meal or a lift.

Read your message once before posting. Leave out private medical details, family disagreements and contact information that others have not agreed to publish.
