Peanuts can generally be sown when the soil temperature at a depth of 10 cm consistently exceeds 12℃. The optimal planting time is from mid-April to early May, around the time of Grain Rain (a solar term in the Chinese calendar). With plastic film mulching, sowing can be brought forward to mid-March. However, the specific time depends on the actual local planting conditions.
Peanuts belong to the legume family and can be used as an oilseed or eaten directly, giving them good economic value. Therefore, they are widely cultivated in my country. So, when is the best time to plant peanuts? Let's find out below.
When should peanuts be planted?
Peanuts can generally be sown when the soil temperature at a depth of 10 cm consistently exceeds 12℃. The optimal planting time is from mid-to-late April to early May, around the time of Grain Rain (a solar term in the Chinese calendar). With plastic film mulching, sowing can be brought forward to mid-to-late March. However, the specific timeframe depends on local planting conditions.

What preparations are needed before planting peanuts?
1. Site selection and land preparation
Choose a suitable plot of land for planting. Peanuts are suitable for cultivation in sandy loam or medium loam soil, requiring deep soil, loose soil, flat terrain, and convenient irrigation and drainage.
2. Deeply till the soil
Deep tilling of the soil before sowing, along with the application of farmyard manure, improves soil structure and promotes peanut growth. The depth of deep tilling is generally 30-35 cm; if conditions do not permit, deep tilling should be carried out at least every 2-3 years.
3. Apply base fertilizer
Peanut base fertilizer should account for more than 80% of the total fertilizer. Generally, 3,000 kg of organic fertilizer and 20 kg of superphosphate can be mixed per mu and applied as base fertilizer.
4. Select superior varieties
Generally, you should choose seeds that are plump, have good skin color, are highly uniform, and have clear seed texture.

5. Sun-drying seeds before sowing
Before sowing, peanut seeds should be properly sun-dried to enhance the permeability of the seed coat and improve the seeds' ability to absorb water and fertilizer. Sun-drying should be done from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, turning the seeds 2-3 times during the process, for 2-3 consecutive days.
6. Proper seed dressing
Before sowing, fungicides , insecticides , rhizobia, micronutrients, etc., are used alone or in combination for seed dressing or coating, depending on production needs, to achieve the purposes of disease and pest prevention, increased nitrogen fixation, and supplementation of nutrients.
