Lucky bamboo , symbolizing wealth and prosperity, is a popular houseplant with lush, glossy green leaves. To ensure your lucky bamboo thrives, what's the best thing to add to the water? Let's find out.
1. Willow branches
Willow branches contain salicylic acid, a substance that can kill bacteria and disinfect. This helps eliminate germs in the water, maintaining good water quality and thus improving the rooting efficiency of lucky bamboo.
2. Aspirin
Aspirin has antibacterial and disinfectant properties, and many households keep this medicine on hand. If some have expired, don't throw them away; you can use them to fertilize your plants. Crush the aspirin tablets into powder , and dilute them at a ratio of one tablet to 1 kg of water. Once the powder is completely dissolved, use it to hydroponically fertilize your lucky bamboo.

3. Nutrient solution
Most lucky bamboo we grow is hydroponically, which doesn't contain much nutrition, and we usually use purified water to keep it healthy. It's best to buy a nutrient solution when growing lucky bamboo. Adding a few drops each week will help the plant grow strong and its leaves vibrant green.
4. Compound fertilizer
If you don't have nutrient solution at home, you can add one or two granules of compound fertilizer to the water bottle each month, or dilute the compound fertilizer with water and add a little each week. Be careful to add only small amounts, as the roots of lucky bamboo have a very weak ability to absorb nutrients in water. Adding too much will not only pollute the water but also easily burn the roots.

5. Charcoal
Charcoal can absorb impurities and has a certain bactericidal and disinfecting effect. Placing a few small pieces in the water for lucky bamboo can absorb impurities and bacteria in the water, keeping the water clean and promoting root growth.
6. Iron nails
Iron nails contain iron. If you notice your lucky bamboo's leaves turning yellow, especially the young leaves, it might be due to an iron deficiency. In this case, you can add iron nails to the water. Some of the iron in the nails can be absorbed by the lucky bamboo's roots, improving the yellowing problem.
7. Vitamin C
Vitamin C, when dissolved in water, forms a slightly acidic solution, which is exactly what lucky bamboo needs. Additionally, vitamin C has antioxidant properties, which can neutralize the disinfectant components in tap water, mitigating water quality deterioration and promoting the growth of lucky bamboo. Simply add one vitamin C tablet to a mineral water bottle, dissolve it, and then pour it into the vase.
