Succulents aren't particularly picky about soil, but the right soil mix is still very important for them to grow well. So, how exactly should you mix soil for succulents? Let's find out below.
What kind of soil should I prepare for succulents?
There are many ways to mix succulent soil. A common mix is peat moss with perlite . There are countless variations of soil mixes, but the key principle is to ensure the soil is well-draining and aerated, preventing waterlogging. A specific recipe is as follows:
1. Coconut coir + perlite + vermiculite
A mixture of coconut coir, perlite, and vermiculite can be used. This mixture is loose, has excellent drainage, and is relatively inexpensive. It also helps store nutrients and promotes the growth of succulents. The specific ratio is coconut coir: perlite: vermiculite = 2:1:1.

2. Peat soil + river sand
Peat moss is ideal for growing succulents, promoting root growth and development. Adding an equal amount of river sand increases the soil's looseness and aeration. The specific ratio is: for mature plants, peat moss: river sand = 1:1; for seedlings, peat moss: river sand = 7:3.
3. Peat moss + volcanic rock + coconut coir
Using peat moss, volcanic rock, and coconut coir is ideal for cultivating succulents, as it provides excellent drainage and prevents waterlogging, promoting plant growth. A suitable mix ratio is peat moss: volcanic rock: coconut coir = 5:3:2.

4. Peat moss and sawdust
Sawdust can also be used to cultivate succulents, but it needs to be decomposed and exposed to the sun. After that, it can be added to peat moss to supplement the soil with nutrients and integrate into the soil, making it quite suitable for cultivating succulents.
5. Garden soil + humus + granules
A good mix consists of 30% garden soil, 20%-30% humus, and around 40% granular material. It offers good aeration and ample nutrients.
6. Garden soil + granular stone + charcoal + coarse sand + slow-release fertilizer
A mixture of 30% garden soil, 30% granular stone, 10% charcoal, 10% coarse sand, and 10% slow-release fertilizer (nutrient powder) provides good aeration and drainage, as well as fertilization. This combination is acceptable.
