Planting jujube trees not only brings considerable and stable income, but it is also one of my country's important fruit tree industries, widely distributed in all provinces and regions except Heilongjiang. However, when planting jujube trees, it is essential to pay attention to three things that jujube trees are most vulnerable to. So what are they? Let's find out below.

What are the three things that jujube trees fear most?

1. Pest infestation

Jujube trees are susceptible to various pests, such as the jujube looper, peach fruit moth, and jujube leafminer.

2. Disease infection

Besides pests, jujube trees are also susceptible to various diseases, such as rust, anthracnose, and fruit rot.

3. Improper fertilization

Improper fertilization can easily burn the roots of jujube trees, preventing them from absorbing water and nutrients, and ultimately leading to the death of the jujube trees.

What are the three things that jujube trees are most afraid of, and how can they be prevented and controlled?

1. Pest Control

(1) Manual control: In late autumn or early winter or early spring, deep plow the jujube orchard to turn the old cocoons, larvae and pupae into the deep soil.

(2) Physical control: Taking advantage of the strong phototaxis of some adult insects, black light lamps are used to lure and kill adult insects at night during the adult emergence period.

(3) Chemical control: Generally, pesticides are sprayed in time during the larval stage. Commonly used pesticides include trichlorfon, deltamethrin, and cypermethrin.

2. Disease prevention

Choose virus-free seedlings and strictly quarantine seedlings imported from other places; increase the application of high-quality organic fertilizer to promote the healthy growth of seedlings and select strong seedlings for planting; remove diseased plants and root suckers with diseases; and carry out targeted prevention and control with pesticides, such as carbendazim, Bordeaux mixture, and thiophanate-methyl for jujube rust.

3. Apply fertilizer correctly

The base fertilizer for jujube trees should primarily consist of organic fertilizer, supplemented with some quick-acting fertilizer. Applying quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer or nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium compound fertilizer can promote root absorption of nutrients. Topdressing should be applied at three important times: first, before jujube trees sprout, generally using quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer; second, before jujube trees flower, boron or zinc fertilizer can be sprayed; and third, during the young fruit stage, using compound fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
