Modern people enjoy keeping flowers and plants at home, so many people have potted plants . However, to grow them well, you need to pay attention to the methods. How exactly do you grow potted plants? Let's find out below.

1. Potting soil

Potted plants require frequent and repeated watering, which can easily cause the soil to compact and affect root growth. Therefore, choose pots and soils with good air permeability and drainage. Mix peat moss, perlite , and leaf mold in a 1:1:1 ratio before planting.

2. Watering

Potted plants have small root systems and are easily affected by overwatering. It is important to control the amount of water you give them. You can water them only when the soil is dry.

3. Light

Most plants need sufficient light to photosynthesize. Potted plants need appropriate light, and flowering plants are best placed in a well-lit area, such as a south- or east-facing location.

4. Fertilizing

Most soils contain adequate nutrients, but these nutrients are quite limited and typically lose their fertility after about six months. Therefore, it's important to supplement with fertilizer to promote plant growth and encourage flowering. During the growing season, apply a diluted organic liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks. For flowering plants, apply potassium dihydrogen phosphate regularly before the flowering period.

5. Ventilation

Good ventilation is essential when growing potted plants. For balcony plants, ensure proper ventilation by opening windows. For outdoor plants, avoid placing them too densely; prune overly dense branches to maintain good airflow.

6. Pest and disease control

Pest and disease control is crucial for potted plant care. Prevention is key; don't wait until it happens to treat it, as any pest or disease can have irreversible effects on the plant. For potted plants, it's essential to follow the patterns of pest and disease occurrence and apply preventative medications regularly. You can periodically spray the plants with a 500-fold dilution of alcohol or vinegar to kill bacteria and prevent disease.
