Thrips are common pests that reproduce 10-20 generations each year, damaging not only crop organs but also spreading various viruses. So, what pesticides are effective against thrips? Let's find out.
What medication is most effective for treating thrips?
1.40% Bromoyl·Thiamethoxam Seed Treatment Suspension
This pesticide is an insecticide composed of bromocyanamide and thiamethoxam. It works by activating the ryanodine receptor of the target pest, causing the pest to become immobile, paralyzed, and eventually die. It has good activity against thrips and is safe for crops.

2. Thiamethoxam
Thiamethoxam is a relatively effective insecticide for thrips. It has a long-lasting effect, lasting up to 50 days, and provides continuous killing of both adult and nymph thrips. A 30% thiamethoxam suspension can be applied simultaneously with spraying and flushed with water at a rate of 300-400 ml per acre.
3. Spontamine
Spinosad is a type of bio-based insecticide, characterized by its low toxicity. Spinosad is sold commercially as a suspension concentrate and must be diluted with water before use. For thrips control, a lower concentration can be used, typically a 1200-1500 times dilution of 2.5% spinosad suspension per acre.

4. Thiamethoxam
Because thrips are highly mobile and reproduce rapidly, using pesticides alone is often ineffective. A combined approach of spraying and root drenching is recommended. For above-ground spraying, use 50% thiamethoxam water-dispersible granules, diluted at 10 grams per acre in 20 kg of water, and spray evenly. Alternatively, dilute 25% thiamethoxam·high-efficiency cyhalothrin microcapsule suspension before spraying.
5. Other medicines
You can also use pyridaben plus 40% acetamiprid, or 20% cypermethrin plus 40% acetamiprid, or 10% lambda-cyhalothrin plus 40% acetamiprid, or bifenthrin plus 40% acetamiprid, or deltamethrin plus 70% imidacloprid, or cypermethrin plus 70% imidacloprid for control, with very good results.
Precautions for Thrips medication
1. Thrips are small and nocturnal, so it is advisable to administer medication in the afternoon. In addition, organosilicon can be added to enhance their penetration into concealed locations.
2. Thrips reproduce very quickly, so early prevention and control are necessary. If the optimal control time is missed, large amounts of pesticides will be needed, and the effect will be poor.
3. Spraying should be done comprehensively. Thrips generally live in the lower and middle parts of plants and on the ground, so it is best to spray these parts of the plant.
