There are many varieties of wheat , and different wheat varieties have different suitable planting areas and yield performance. LeiMai 118 wheat is one of the many wheat varieties. So what are the characteristics of the LeiMai 118 wheat variety? Let's take a look.

1. Characteristics

(1) This variety has a plant height of 70.2 cm and a compact plant type when mature. It has good cold resistance, good lodging resistance, and good ripening appearance. The grains are plump, with long awns, hard texture, spindle-shaped ears, white grains, and white husks. The number of ears per mu is 405,000, the number of grains per ear is 32.4, and the weight of 1,000 grains is 41.3 grams.

(2) This variety is a semi-winter, medium-maturing variety with semi-prostrate seedlings, strong tillering ability, and dark green leaves. The average growth period is 230.4 days, which is comparable to the control variety Heng 4399.

(3) Quality: In 2019, the Hebei Provincial Crop Variety Quality Testing Center determined that the wet gluten (14% wet basis) was 27.5%, the crude protein (dry basis) was 14.2%, the water absorption was 58.4 ml/100 g, the stability time was 2.8 minutes, the formation time was 3.0 minutes, the maximum tensile resistance was 356 EU, the tensile area was 53 square centimeters, and the bulk density was 797 g/L.

(4) Disease resistance: According to the disease resistance identification results of the Institute of Plant Protection, Hebei Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, in 2016-2017, it was highly resistant to stripe rust, highly susceptible to Fusarium head blight, moderately susceptible to powdery mildew, and moderately susceptible to leaf rust; in 2018-2019, it was highly susceptible to leaf rust, highly susceptible to Fusarium head blight, highly susceptible to powdery mildew, susceptible to sheath blight, and highly resistant to stripe rust.

2. Production Performance

In the 2016-2017 regional trials of the Hebei Delibang Wheat Variety Testing Consortium in the central and southern Hebei irrigated and fertile area, the wheat variety showed a 6.5% yield increase compared to the control variety Heng 4399, with an average yield of 552.1 kg/mu. In the 2017-2018 regional trials of the same group, the wheat variety showed a 4.3% yield increase compared to the control, with an average yield of 433.5 kg/mu. In the 2017-2018 production trials, the wheat variety showed a 2.45% yield increase compared to the control, with an average yield of 430.7 kg/mu.

3. Key Cultivation Techniques

The sowing rate is 11.5-12.5 kg per mu (approximately 0.067 hectares), with the suitable sowing period being October 5th-10th. For later sowing, appropriately increase the sowing rate. After sowing, compact the soil and sow when the soil is sufficiently moist. Ensure a basic seedling density of 200,000-240,000. Strengthen field management, promptly control pests and diseases such as aphids and Fusarium head blight, and water thoroughly before the ground freezes and during the greening stage. Deeply plow before sowing, apply 50 kg of compound fertilizer per mu as base fertilizer, and top-dress with 25 kg of urea per mu during the jointing and tillering stage, combined with irrigation.

4. Suitable planting areas

This variety is suitable for planting in medium- and high-fertility winter wheat fields in the central and southern parts of Hebei Province. It meets the Hebei Province wheat variety approval standards and has been approved.
