Peanuts are widely cultivated in China. Especially in recent years, they have become a raw material needed by many industries, resulting in high market sales and prices. This has led farmers to increase their investment in peanut cultivation. So why do peanut seeds grow underground? Let's take a look.

Why do peanut seeds grow underground?

Peanuts belong to the legume family and the genus *Arachis*. This very family and genus determine that peanuts are crops that flower above ground and bear fruit underground—a common characteristic of all plants in the *Arachis* genus. Furthermore, peanut pods, like their root systems, grow towards the ground; only after penetrating the soil can they properly form pods.
