Anthuriums have vibrant green leaves and bright red, festive flowers, making them highly ornamental. However, they are not an easy variety to care for, especially since their leaves are prone to yellowing. So, how can you remedy yellowing leaves on anthuriums? Let's find out below.
1. Watering correctly
The yellowing of Anthurium leaves is mostly due to overwatering, so remember not to water too frequently. If overwatering is present, stop watering immediately, remove the plant from its pot, and inspect the roots. If no root rot is found, place the removed Anthurium in a shady, well-ventilated place to accelerate the evaporation of moisture from the soil.
2. Apply fertilizer appropriately
Insufficient or excessive fertilization, or failure to repot and change the soil in a long time, can all easily lead to abnormal conditions such as yellowing leaves in anthuriums. If too little fertilizer is applied, trace mineral elements should be added, and a fully water-soluble fertilizer can be used. If too much fertilizer is applied, fertilization should be stopped immediately, and watering should be increased. In severe cases, some of the old soil can be removed, replaced with fresh soil, and the plant can be replanted and managed normally.

3. Increase lighting
If anthuriums are kept in a shaded or poorly lit place for a long time, they will become weak and their leaves will become thin and yellow. However, anthuriums prefer plenty of gentle light, requiring at least 3-4 hours of gentle, indirect light every day; just avoid direct sunlight.
4. Pay attention to keeping warm
Anthuriums prefer warm and humid environments, with an ideal growing temperature generally between 15℃ and 35℃. They are not tolerant of low temperatures; if winter temperatures are too low, the leaves are prone to yellowing. Therefore, it is important to take measures to keep them warm, such as covering the potted plant with a plastic bag and placing it in a warm location indoors.

5. Soil improvement
Anthuriums are acid-loving plants and sensitive to salinity and alkalinity. Therefore, when the soil becomes alkaline, the leaves will turn yellow due to poor nutrient absorption. In this case, you can water the plant regularly with ferrous sulfate or ferrous sulfate diluted in water at a concentration of 1:1000.
6. Prevention and control of pathogens
If your anthurium's leaves are turning yellow and drying out, it could very well be due to bacterial infection. You can treat it by spraying with a 0.3% garlic juice solution, a 0.2% vinegar solution, or by using fungicides such as carbendazim or chlorothalonil.
