Grafting is a common and effective propagation method for jujube trees, enabling them to bear fruit earlier and produce higher yields. So, what fruit trees are best for grafting onto jujube trees? Let's find out below.
What fruit trees can be grafted onto a jujube tree?
Jujube trees can generally be grafted with fruit trees such as black jujube trees and persimmon trees. It is recommended to choose trees of the same family and genus for grafting, which can greatly improve the grafting survival rate.

What are the methods for grafting jujube trees?
1. Plug-in splice
Bark grafting is a type of branch grafting, best performed after the jujube tree has sprouted, when sap flow is vigorous and the bark is easy to peel. This grafting method is simple, fast, and has a higher survival rate than other grafting methods.
2. Cleft grafting
Cleft grafting is a type of branch grafting, also known as large grafting. It can be done earlier than bark grafting, when the bark is not yet easy to peel off but the sap has already begun to flow.
3. Abdominal connection
Side grafting is also a type of branch grafting. The method of preparing the scion is basically the same as that of cleft grafting, except that the scion should be cut with one side slightly longer and the other side slightly shorter. When grafting, insert the prepared scion into the oblique cut of the rootstock , with the longer cut side facing inward and the shorter cut side facing outward, so that the cambium layers of the scion and rootstock are aligned. Other procedures and requirements are the same as for cleft grafting.

4. Grafted with woody buds
Woody bud grafting is best performed in spring after the rootstock sap has begun to flow. At the base of the rootstock, use a bud cutter to cut the root into sections about one-third the diameter of the rootstock, with the cut about 1 cm below the rootstock. Cut the shield and attach it to the slit. Remove the wood. It is best to use a scion of similar thickness to the rootstock. Make a horizontal cut 3 mm above the main bud.
5.Budding
Budding is generally performed after the main bud has formed during the growing season, using the main bud of the current year for grafting; it is also called T-budding. If the scion from the previous year is used, budding can also be performed in spring after the jujube tree sprouts. Because it is difficult to obtain bud patches with complete vascular bundles, woody budding is generally used, which is also called inlay budding.
