Lucky bamboo is originally a tropical foliage plant and is not cold-hardy. Therefore, with the arrival of the cold winter, its care becomes increasingly difficult, and it can easily turn yellow and die if not properly cared for. So how can you keep lucky bamboo alive through the winter? Let's find out below.
1. Keep warm
When caring for lucky bamboo in winter, it's essential to take precautions against the cold. Move it to a warm indoor location promptly, keeping the room temperature above 10℃.

2. Placement
In winter, when keeping lucky bamboo indoors, it's important to place it away from drafts and avoid prolonged exposure to cold water to prevent moisture loss and yellowing leaves. Also, keep it away from electrical appliances to avoid heat or radiation that could harm the leaves.
3. Control watering
In winter, reduce watering frequency for lucky bamboo, keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged. If the weather is dry, occasionally mist the leaves. For hydroponic plants, change the water about once a week, making sure to maintain a suitable water temperature to prevent the water from freezing and damaging the roots.
4. Stop fertilizing
In winter, when temperatures are low, lucky bamboo requires very little fertilizer and is almost in a semi-dormant state. Therefore, it is not necessary to fertilize it. In fact, fertilizing may burn the roots of the lucky bamboo because it cannot absorb the fertilizer.

5. Supplement lighting
In winter, the root system of lucky bamboo is weak and has almost no ability to supply nutrients. If it is kept in low temperatures and placed in a place without light, the leaves will easily turn yellow and dry out. Therefore, in winter, it is best to move it to a sunny window with plenty of sunlight and let it bask in the sun every day. The sunlight in winter is mild, so there is no need to worry about sunburn on the leaves. In fact, sufficient sunlight can promote photosynthesis and nutrient accumulation in the leaves.
6. Trim residual leaves
It is normal for lucky bamboo to develop yellow and withered leaves in winter. You can use scissors to cut off the withered and damaged leaves in time. When spring comes, the plant's leaves will become green and lush again.
