Scallions are a common winter vegetable for storage, with high market demand, especially among people in northern regions who stock up on them for the winter. However, the cold and dry winter weather makes proper storage of scallions crucial. So, what are the best storage methods? Here are some:
1. Cardboard box storage method
First, remove any damaged or rotten parts from the outermost layer of the scallions. Then, place the prepared scallions into a dry cardboard box, with the roots facing down and the leaves exposed. Do not seal the box; simply store it in a cool, shady place at home.
2. Newspaper storage method
Find some dry old newspapers, remove the yellow and rotten leaves from the scallions, let them dry, place them on the newspapers, roll up the newspapers, and store them in a cool, ventilated place.
3. Plastic bag storage method
First, trim the garlic cloves, then remove any dried scallion leaves. Finally, prepare a large plastic bag, wrap the scallions inside, and tie the bag tightly with a string. Store it in a cool, well-ventilated place. Be sure to use a toothpick to poke a few small holes in the plastic bag to allow the scallions to breathe and prevent them from drying out.
4. Refrigerator storage method
Before storing, remove the dry leaves and skins from the scallions, then cut them into sections. Be sure to separate the white parts from the green parts. Place them in a plastic bag, remove all the air, and add two small packets of desiccant. Finally, refrigerate them.

Bundle the scallions into bunches of five. Find a plastic bucket or an unused large flowerpot and fill it with sand to about one-third full.
