Swine pseudorabies is a highly contagious and rapidly spreading infectious disease caused by the pseudorabies virus. It is a common clinical disease in pig farming, and people of all ages are susceptible. So what are the specific symptoms in piglets? Let's find out below.
What are the main symptoms of pseudorabies in piglets?
The main symptoms of pseudorabies in piglets include obvious mental symptoms, lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea, and death usually occurs within 1-2 days of onset. The mortality rate is very high, reaching up to 100%, with the peak mortality occurring between 4 and 6 days of age.

How to prevent and treat pseudorabies in piglets?
1. Do a good job of introducing species
When introducing new pigs, the imported pig herds must undergo gE antibody testing. If the result is positive, they cannot enter the pig farm. If the result is negative, they need to be quarantined for 14 days before being allowed to enter the pig farm.
2. Disinfection of pig farms
The pig farm is disinfected regularly, and the general environment can be disinfected with a 2% caustic soda solution. In addition, rodent control measures are carried out 2-3 times a year to reduce the risk of rodent-borne diseases.
3. Preventing problems during mixing
Mixing feed: Baby Care + Multivitamin Care can prevent diarrhea in piglets , regulate their intestines, supplement their nutrition, improve their immunity, and prevent any negative impact on their healthy growth.

4. Vaccination
The most effective way to prevent pseudorabies is through vaccination. It is recommended that piglets be vaccinated nasally with one dose at 3 days of age, and then intramuscularly at 35 days of age for the first vaccination. A second vaccination should be administered intramuscularly at an interval of 28-35 days. If there is high pressure on pseudorabies control in the pig farm, a third vaccination can be given around 100 days of age.
5. Treatment measures
When the disease occurs, immediately isolate the sick pigs. For piglets with mild symptoms, emergency treatment with porcine pseudorabies hyperimmune serum can reduce mortality. Severely ill pigs and those that die should be culled or buried deeply.
